Project Overview
McKay, brother of Kyle Coombs of Coombs Construction, needed a new website for his landscaping business. His current site wasn’t meeting expectations, and I was the third designer he had worked with. Not only does he specialize in landscaping but additionally does hardscaping, outdoor lighting, xeriscaping, and water features!
Process
When we first met, I focused on learning about him, his business, and the goals he wanted to achieve with the new site. From there, I began the design process by researching other landscaping websites in Utah County and surrounding areas and building style guides for each to quick reference as needed.
Next, I sketched out ideas to help generate concepts for site layouts and then built a low-fidelity prototype using grey boxes and placeholder text. This step was essential for identifying gaps in design and ensuring smooth content flow.
Once that was complete, I created a high-fidelity prototype featuring images, color, and the actual copy that would appear on the finished site. After finalizing the prototype with McKay, I moved forward with building the website in Wix.
Outcome
Both McKay and I were pleased with the final result. The new Coombs Outdoor Living website now clearly showcases the full range of services, presents a professional online presence, and provides a smooth user experience for clients seeking landscaping solutions.
