Project Overview
This is a student project completed in my media compression class. The goal was to tell the story of legendary band Pink Floyd in a highly visual, interactive format. The project focuses on creating an engaging experience while also exploring media compression techniques to optimize file size without sacrificing clarity.
Process
The book was organized following the media compression workflow used in class: audio, video, then images.
1. Audio section: I used Bookry widgets to allow users to tap each Pink Floyd album and listen to sample tracks, making the experience interactive while keeping text minimal.

2. Band History: I incorporated David Gilmour’s guitar as a visual timeline. Each fret mark represents an important date in the band’s nearly 50-year history, and the tuning pegs contain pop-up facts about the band. Pages were designed with Photoshop to ensure smooth transitions between segments.

I thought I was finished with their history section when I noticed the tuning pegs. I thought, “What could I do with those?” I thought about it for a while until I decided it would be fun to list six cool facts about the band, one for each peg. I had to photoshop each peg individually as well as each fret mark and placed each in a pop-over so that when it was tapped, it would show the information. I also added some hints on each page on how to interact with the images. Here is a video of the guitar and the tuning pegs and their interactions:
3. Band Members: For each member, I displayed their birth year, location, and lesser-known facts. Album art was sliced to create cohesive backgrounds without distracting from the content.
4. Media Compression: Initially, the project totaled 615 MB, but after compressing video (H.264) and images (.JPG at 50%), the size was reduced to 243 MB, significantly improving usability and loading times.
Outcome
This project taught me a lot about interactive digital storytelling, visual design, and media compression. The immersive Pink Floyd book combines interactivity with educational content, showing how creative presentation and technical optimization can enhance a user’s experience.
